Everyday Outfits: January 26th

Hello friends and happy Monday!  I hope you all had a great weekend!  My husband and I actually had a date day on Saturday.  Yes, all day!  We had a great time shopping and having lunch in another town about an hour and a half away.  It's always fun exploring new places.

Well we're changin' things up here a little bit.  I've decided to post all of my outfits for the week at one time, on Mondays.  That way you can have inspiration for the week and can really see the pieces in the outfits up close.

Light Aqua and Dark Grey

charter club sweater (similar, similar)
old navy wool turtleneck (similar, similar)
kohl's boots (similar, similar)
necklace and earrings, made by me (tutorial here)

I really love this light aqua cardigan and thought I'd try out a charcoal grey turtleneck sweater underneath it.  The statement necklace and earrings that I made here went perfectly and it adds a little personality to my outfit.  Bootcut jeans and ankle boots completed my look.

Black and Purple

great american sweater company sweater (similar, similar)
target cami, girls dept. (similar, similar)
arizona jeans (similar, similar)
kohl's boots (similar, similar

Yikes!  I just looked outside and we got about 5" of snow last night!  Looks like I won't be running any errands this morning until the roads are plowed.  Good ole winter!

As I'm trying to wear everything in my closet in different ways, it's kind of hard to style this sweater other ways.  I really like that it's a turtleneck sweater and the decorative pattern at the bottom, so I just added a bright purple cami to show through and add some color.  Paired this with my bootcut jeans and ankle boots.  Simple with a pop of color!

Hope you all have a fabulous day!!

Happy Monday and MLK Day!  My girls are off school today so I need to come up with something to do with them.  Laundry?  Cleaning?  Why don't kids think these things are fun to do?!  Actually we'll probably do some baking or shopping.

Anyway, the beginning of last week was so cold so I had to pile on the layers!  Brrrr....  I'm wearing my burgundy sweater over my pink gingham button-up, and a denim jacket over that.  Added some skinny jeans with tall boots and an infinity scarf and I was warm all day.  Gotta love these Iowa winters!  Stay warm!

Autumn Soup Recipe

Okay, we've gone over this before.  I'm not a photographer and won't pretend to be one.  Food photography is difficult, and this is my best photo of this soup.  I really tried! :)

This recipe came from my Aunt many, many years ago but has just recently become a favorite in my home.  Even my picky daughters love this soup!  It's chock full of vegetables and warms you right up on these cold winter days.  It's easy to make and very filling.  Leftovers are wonderful too!

Autumn Soup
1 lb. ground beef (I used ground turkey)
1 med. onion, chopped
2-3 c. water
3/4 c. celery, diced
3/4 c. carrots, diced
2 large potatoes, diced
1-8 oz. can tomato sauce
3 fresh tomatoes, chopped (I used canned diced tomatoes)
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper (or to taste)
pinch of basil
1 tsp. chili powder

Brown ground beef (turkey) in a large pot and drain.  Add remaining ingredients and heat on high until it comes to a boil.  Cover and reduce heat to simmer for about 1 hour, or until vegetables are soft.  Enjoy with a salad and bread!

Magenta and Plaid + What Wives Wear Link Up!

button-up (similar, similar)
old navy sweater (similar, similar)
walmart leggings (similar, similar)
scarf, made by me (tutorial here)
gianni bini boots (similar, similar)

I recently made this long scarf and couldn't wait to wear it!  The scarf has so many colors in it and goes with many things I already have in my closet.  Today I chose to wear it with a white button-up, magenta cardigan, grey leggings and tall boots.

I think the scarf really highlights the magenta sweater.  As I was waiting at an appointment today, I received many compliments on my outfit so I'm sure I'll be wearing this again in the future!  It was quite comfy (as leggings always are) and the bright magenta can make any winter day seem brighter.

Sweater Sleeve Refashion

Over the past few months, I've received several emails asking me to do more refashions and craft ideas.  I realized then that my blog had taken a different turn and I missed doing refashions and crafts/DIY too!  So, thank you for your emails...I love hearing from you!!...and I promise to do more of those.  Unfortunately, I've donated so many things in my closet lately that I don't have much left to refashion, and where I live now we don't have the best thrifting options.  I will try my best, but hang tight with me until I can build up a good stash again.  I think I just talked myself into a great thifting roadtrip soon!

Until then, I have this easy refashion for you.  I recently wore this grey sweater, and after looking at the photos I realized how hard it is to style.  I'm not sure if it's because it doesn't button up all the way, the color, or the over-sized sleeves.  After much debate I decided to throw it in the donation pile.

My youngest daughter was watching me and said, "Mommy, I love that sweater!  You can't get rid of it"!  I asked her if she wanted it, and of course, she got the biggest grin on her face and snatched it out of my hand.  Once again, I gained "cool mom" status.

She then proceeded to tell me that if I took in the sleeves, she would wear it.  Easy fix!  I love to sew and I love to refashion.  Here she is wearing it "before" and you can see how large the sleeves are.

I turned the sweater wrong side out and just eyeballed it for the width of the new sleeve, and sewed from the edge up to the armpit at an angle.

Chopped off the extra fabric close to the seam.  I didn't finish the edge because the stitching will keep it from unraveling.

She is so proud of her new sweater.  Don't the sleeves look better?  I think so, and if she's happy that's all that matters.  Looks cuter on her anyway!

Thank you again to all of you that emailed me!  Big hugs to you!  It reminded me why I started this blog...This blog is about my life and all the good things I'm learning along the way.

Argan Oil Hair Mask and Argan Oil from InstaNatural

I know, I know!  Yet another InstaNatural product review, but I have truly fallen in love with all of the InstaNatural products I have tried and want to share them with you!  They are a great company and produce great products.  I recently tried two eye products, as well as their Retinol skincare, so I knew the Argan Oil products were going to be fabulous as well!

InstaNatural is a leading online and global distributor of more than a dozen nature-inspired beauty and cosmetics products.  Their products are also one of the top sellers on Amazon and can be found in spas, salons and aesthetic centers in the US, UK, and soon to be in Canada.  These products are made in the USA, are not tested on animals, and they also have a lifetime satisfaction guarantee!

The Argan Oil Hair Mask has got to be the best smelling hair product ever!   It smells like the best Orange Creamsicle in the world!  No joke!  Because my hair is still growing back from my chemo treatments last summer, I let my two daughters try this out.  My daughters both have long, gorgeous hair so they were perfect to try this.  The Argan Oil Hair Mask is said to be an intensive hair conditioner that turns dry, damaged hair into luxurious, silky strands.  It is made with Organic Argan Oil, Coconut Oil, Shea Butter and Vitamin B5.

My daughters washed their hair as normal, and then added a small amount of the Argan Oil Hair Mask and let it sit on their hair for about 10 minutes while they finished their showers, and then rinsed it out.  Their hair was tangle free and super soft and silky.   Their hair smelled so yummy and when their hair was dry, it looked healthy and shiny.  They have healthy hair to begin with, but they both were hooked on this product!  You only need to use a small amount, so the jar will last a long time.  This can also be used as a standard conditioner.

Because my daughters tried the Argan Oil Hair Mask, I got to try the Organic Argan Oil.  It is said to be 100% pure Organic Argan Oil for your hair, face, skin and nails.  Let me tell you this is the mother of all products!  It can be used for every skin condition, such as acne, dry scalp, split ends, frizzy hair, stretch marks, a moisturizer, lip softener, for nail care and so many more uses!

I personally used the Organic Argan Oil as a moisturizer on my entire body when I got out of the shower, to strengthen and soften my nails and cuticles, to soften my scars, and applied it to my dry hands for an overnight softening treatment.  I even used it on my face a couple of times.  It absorbs quickly and leaves your skin feeling luxuriously soft.  If you've never used 100% pure Argan Oil before, please note that it smells a little earthy/nutty at first, but the smell disappears in a few minutes.  I think this oil could be used for anything on your body!

As I've said before, I love all of the InstaNatural products I've tried and have nothing but GOOD things to say about them.  From purchasing them on Amazon, receiving emails from AJ (the founder), to trying them.  They are truly wonderful!

Go check them out on Amazon!

Black and White

joe fresh jeans (similar)
jcpenney boots (similar, similar

Some days just call for simplicity, and you can't get much more simple than black and white.  I love this black cashmere sweater because it's soft and comfy and easy to style.  I just added a white cami underneath, a printed long scarf, skinny jeans and a pair of black boots.  I was comfy and stylish all day long!  In my post yesterday I wore taupe and black and today it's black and white.  Yikes!  I need to get some more color into my wardrobe!

Taupe and Black

express sweater (similar, similar)
button-up, old
kohl's boots (similar, similar)
scarf, thrifted (similar, similar)

Still coughing up a lung over here, but my voice has returned.  I've heard this virus hangs on for a few weeks!  Lovely! :)  Plus it's a snow day here because of the frigid temperatures.  Guess I'll be doing some baking with the girls today.

Recently my friend Katie gave me this sweater (thanks sweet friend!!).  She no longer wore it and wanted to give it a good home, so of course I was thrilled with the gift!  One more item to style in different ways! It's a pretty taupe color, and a nice low v-neck.  I wore my white with black pinstripes button-up underneath, and added the black scarf for some color near my face.  I opted for bootcut jeans and ankle boots to complete the look.

In writing this post, I realized I have been wearing a LOT of black and tan colors this season.  I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not.  I think I need to invest in a few more colorful pieces for winter.  I really like to have color near my face so I don't feel so washed out.  Perhaps another colorful scarf?  I know that clearance sales are in full force at the mall, so I'll be checking them out!

Black and Pink

old navy dress (similar, similar)
kohl's jacket (similar, similar)
target tights (similar)
jcpenney boots (similar, similar)

Happy New Year!!  It's great to be back after a few days off.  Hope you all had wonderful celebrations and a great start to the new year!  Unfortunately I got sick with a cough/laryngitis, so it's been pretty quiet around here for the last several days.  I'm still trying to get rid of this bug, but for some reason it just wants to hang around.

I haven't worn this black dress in awhile, so it was time to bring it out again.  I paired it with my favorite polka dot tights, a bright pink jacket and some black boots.  As much as I love scarves, it was time to take a break from them and bring out some jewelry.  I just added a couple long chain necklaces and was all set!

I'm trying really hard to wear everything in my closet in different ways.  I'm already tired of wearing sweaters, and winter just began!  Ughhh!!  This really challenges me to mix and match more and I'm having fun doing it, without buying new.   Yay for working my closet!
