Everyday Outfits: January 26th

Hello friends and happy Monday!  I hope you all had a great weekend!  My husband and I actually had a date day on Saturday.  Yes, all day!  We had a great time shopping and having lunch in another town about an hour and a half away.  It's always fun exploring new places.

Well we're changin' things up here a little bit.  I've decided to post all of my outfits for the week at one time, on Mondays.  That way you can have inspiration for the week and can really see the pieces in the outfits up close.

Light Aqua and Dark Grey

charter club sweater (similar, similar)
old navy wool turtleneck (similar, similar)
kohl's boots (similar, similar)
necklace and earrings, made by me (tutorial here)

I really love this light aqua cardigan and thought I'd try out a charcoal grey turtleneck sweater underneath it.  The statement necklace and earrings that I made here went perfectly and it adds a little personality to my outfit.  Bootcut jeans and ankle boots completed my look.

Black and Purple

Yikes!  I just looked outside and we got about 5" of snow last night!  Looks like I won't be running any errands this morning until the roads are plowed.  Good ole winter!

As I'm trying to wear everything in my closet in different ways, it's kind of hard to style this sweater other ways.  I really like that it's a turtleneck sweater and the decorative pattern at the bottom, so I just added a bright purple cami to show through and add some color.  Paired this with my bootcut jeans and ankle boots.  Simple with a pop of color!

Hope you all have a fabulous day!!

Happy Monday and MLK Day!  My girls are off school today so I need to come up with something to do with them.  Laundry?  Cleaning?  Why don't kids think these things are fun to do?!  Actually we'll probably do some baking or shopping.

Anyway, the beginning of last week was so cold so I had to pile on the layers!  Brrrr....  I'm wearing my burgundy sweater over my pink gingham button-up, and a denim jacket over that.  Added some skinny jeans with tall boots and an infinity scarf and I was warm all day.  Gotta love these Iowa winters!  Stay warm!

Autumn Soup Recipe

Okay, we've gone over this before.  I'm not a photographer and won't pretend to be one.  Food photography is difficult, and this is my best photo of this soup.  I really tried! :)

This recipe came from my Aunt many, many years ago but has just recently become a favorite in my home.  Even my picky daughters love this soup!  It's chock full of vegetables and warms you right up on these cold winter days.  It's easy to make and very filling.  Leftovers are wonderful too!

Autumn Soup
1 lb. ground beef (I used ground turkey)
1 med. onion, chopped
2-3 c. water
3/4 c. celery, diced
3/4 c. carrots, diced
2 large potatoes, diced
1-8 oz. can tomato sauce
3 fresh tomatoes, chopped (I used canned diced tomatoes)
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper (or to taste)
pinch of basil
1 tsp. chili powder

Brown ground beef (turkey) in a large pot and drain.  Add remaining ingredients and heat on high until it comes to a boil.  Cover and reduce heat to simmer for about 1 hour, or until vegetables are soft.  Enjoy with a salad and bread!

Magenta and Plaid + What Wives Wear Link Up!

button-up (similar, similar)
old navy sweater (similar, similar)
walmart leggings (similar, similar)
scarf, made by me (tutorial here)
gianni bini boots (similar, similar)

I recently made this long scarf and couldn't wait to wear it!  The scarf has so many colors in it and goes with many things I already have in my closet.  Today I chose to wear it with a white button-up, magenta cardigan, grey leggings and tall boots.

I think the scarf really highlights the magenta sweater.  As I was waiting at an appointment today, I received many compliments on my outfit so I'm sure I'll be wearing this again in the future!  It was quite comfy (as leggings always are) and the bright magenta can make any winter day seem brighter.

Sweater Sleeve Refashion

Over the past few months, I've received several emails asking me to do more refashions and craft ideas.  I realized then that my blog had taken a different turn and I missed doing refashions and crafts/DIY too!  So, thank you for your emails...I love hearing from you!!...and I promise to do more of those.  Unfortunately, I've donated so many things in my closet lately that I don't have much left to refashion, and where I live now we don't have the best thrifting options.  I will try my best, but hang tight with me until I can build up a good stash again.  I think I just talked myself into a great thifting roadtrip soon!

Until then, I have this easy refashion for you.  I recently wore this grey sweater, and after looking at the photos I realized how hard it is to style.  I'm not sure if it's because it doesn't button up all the way, the color, or the over-sized sleeves.  After much debate I decided to throw it in the donation pile.

My youngest daughter was watching me and said, "Mommy, I love that sweater!  You can't get rid of it"!  I asked her if she wanted it, and of course, she got the biggest grin on her face and snatched it out of my hand.  Once again, I gained "cool mom" status.

She then proceeded to tell me that if I took in the sleeves, she would wear it.  Easy fix!  I love to sew and I love to refashion.  Here she is wearing it "before" and you can see how large the sleeves are.

I turned the sweater wrong side out and just eyeballed it for the width of the new sleeve, and sewed from the edge up to the armpit at an angle.

Chopped off the extra fabric close to the seam.  I didn't finish the edge because the stitching will keep it from unraveling.

She is so proud of her new sweater.  Don't the sleeves look better?  I think so, and if she's happy that's all that matters.  Looks cuter on her anyway!

Thank you again to all of you that emailed me!  Big hugs to you!  It reminded me why I started this blog...This blog is about my life and all the good things I'm learning along the way.
